What if your career counselling expertise could help guide extraordinary professional journeys?

A posting. A transition to civilian life. A career change. A return to the workforce. A military spouse or partner who needs to rethink their career path because of the realities of military life.

At the Valcartier Military Family Resource Centre (VMFRC), our clients’ career paths are rarely linear.

We are looking for a Career Counsellor who wants to use their expertise to support military members, Veterans and their families, primarily through individual counselling sessions.

You don’t need to know the military community inside and out when you start. Above all, we are looking for someone who is curious, autonomous and confident in their professional practice—someone who takes the time to understand the whole person and helps them make career choices that truly reflect who they are.

What your role will look like

You will support clients through a variety of career counselling, career transition and employability processes.

More specifically, you will:

• Assess clients’ needs and develop a comprehensive understanding of their personal, educational and professional circumstances;
• Explore their interests, motivations, skills, aspirations and the challenges related to their career path;
• Guide clients in reflecting on their professional identity, motivation, self-esteem and work-life balance;
• Support decision-making and help clients define a realistic and meaningful career plan;
• Identify barriers that may affect entering, returning to or remaining in the workforce, and determine which resources can help;
• Develop an action plan with each client based on their goals and provide follow-up throughout the process;
• When needed, support clients with job-search strategies and their understanding of the labour market;
• Collaborate with other professionals and services within the Centre to provide comprehensive support;
• Document your interventions in accordance with professional standards and applicable requirements;
• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of services offered to our clients.

What we’re looking for

• Master’s degree in counselling and career guidance;
• Membership with the Ordre des conseillers et conseillères d’orientation du Québec (OCCOQ);
• A minimum of two years of relevant experience;
• Excellent spoken and written French;
• Ability to carry on a conversation in English;
• Ability to quickly build trust and rapport;
• Autonomy, sound professional judgment and adaptability;
• Ability to support clients facing a wide range of circumstances and career paths;
• Knowledge of job-search strategies and community resources;
• Knowledge of military and Veteran realities is an asset, but not a requirement.

The position

• Permanent, full-time position – 35 hours per week
• Daytime schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
• Salary: $55,200 to $84,539 per year, based on recognized experience
• Work location: Shannon, approximately 10 minutes from Val-Bélair
• Start date: As soon as possible
